ILG’s Education Division has the knowledge and experience needed to navigate the complexities of discrimination and harassment claims in the education setting. Our team is dedicated to supporting educational institutions in the Intermountain West and across the nation in their missions to ensure no student is deprived of equal access to their education. We take seriously the responsibilities that this line of work carries and work diligently to ensure that the schools we work with are able to uphold their obligations to the law and do right by their students.

Each of our investigators receives annual Title IX training and certification to ensure that we are consistent in applying best practices in this area while also completing additional training on trauma-informed interviewing and bias mitigation to promote effectiveness and neutrality in our process. We take this work extremely seriously and our investment in our staff is one way we demonstrate our commitment.

Our team member training program additionally includes specialized training in conducting Title IX investigations in the K-12 setting. These investigations can be particularly fraught with challenges due to the complexities that come with interviewing minors and the involvement of parents and guardians in the process. This is why we ensure that our team is prepared to utilize interviewing techniques that are age appropriate and understand the nuances of effectively managing a K-12 process.

Outsourcing investigations to impartial third-party investigators in this setting can be particularly important.  It provides educational institutions a greater degree of professionalism and consistency, and helps them to avoid any conflicts of interest or bias that might occur due to the inextricable affiliations of the institution’s staff to students and faculty.  Our goal in ILG’s Education Division is to provide a process that ensures fairness to all parties, and an unbiased professional assessment of the situation.

In addition to providing the sensitive, thorough and timely investigations that are synonymous with ILG’s work, our team is capable of providing policy review and consultation, as well as fractional Title XI/Title VI Coordination. We also can be counted on to provide the training that school staff and administrators need to manage these types of cases efficiently and effectively. These additional services are offered by ILG in recognition of the fact that many educational institutions lack the resources and tools necessary to effectively meet their legal obligations and ensure that all students have full access to educational opportunities.
