The Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act (CAIA) was signed into law by Governor Jared Polis in May 2024 and was scheduled to take effect on February 1, 2026. However, the special legislative session held on August 26, 2025, concluded without an agreement on how to amend the law, and its implementation date was delayed until June 2026. The Legislature will reconvene in January 2026 and will again meet with the big tech companies and Colorado businesses to negotiate next steps.
With the delayed effective date, Colorado tech companies and businesses, particularly those in HR departments that have integrated AI tools into their hiring processes, will have more time to develop a compliance strategy. Stay tuned!
