School staff and students have returned to schools but is your school “Title IX ready” for the year? School administrators have a wonderful opportunity during this transition to returning to school to educate its employees about Title IX through onboarding and training.
First, administrators can influence and impact school culture and environment through providing informative onboarding training about Title IX. Staff onboarding should include a section on Title IX, which includes policy information on the school’s Title IX complainant and grievance process, Title IX roles and responsibilities, the definition of sexual harassment under Title IX, and hypothetical situation that might implicate the school’s Title IX policy. A robust section on Title IX would help staff recognize and report incidents on campus that may implicate Title IX, which would ultimately result in a safer school community.
Second, Title IX requires Title IX personnel to receive training on the definition of sexual harassment, the scope of the school’s education program or activity, and how to conduct an investigation and grievance process, and how to serve impartially without conflict or bias.
ILG provides individualized training to help schools meet the Title IX training requirement. ILG’s trainings include, at a minimum: Title IX scope, jurisdiction, definitions, grievance process, supportive measures, the investigation process, and hearings. ILG can work with your Title IX team to cater training specifically to your school needs. Contact ILG for more information.
