Jeff Fager, the longtime executive producer for “60 Minutes,” was fired yesterday from CBS News for sending a text message that threatened the career of a reporter who was investigating allegations of sexual harassment made against him.
Fager is the third high-profile personality in less than a year to leave CBS News for reasons related to harassment allegations. Last November, news anchor Charlie Rose was fired after eight women accused him of inappropriate conduct. And just this week, Les Moonves resigned as CEO after numerous women made similar accusations against him.
Several women have recently accused Fager of inappropriate touching and allowing harassment to take place on his watch. CBS News said, however, that Fager’s termination was not directly related to those accusations, which are still being investigated, but because of the threatening text message he sent trying to stifle the reporter investigating the allegations. As they say… sometimes it’s not the crime, it’s the cover-up!
